Wildlife Tours

With winter here, our Dolphin & Seal Tours includes Whale Watching. This is a chance to get up close and personal with some of the ocean’s most charismatic creatures, all while experiencing the breathtaking scenery that makes the Central Coast one of the best spots for marine wildlife encounters.

Whales

Every year humpback whales migrate north to warmer waters off the Queensland coast to give birth. To avoid the Great Eastern Australian Current (yes, the one depicted in finding Nemo) they swim closer to shore making sightings of them easy and frequent. After giving birth, the whales and their calves hop into the current on the way back to the healthy fishing grounds of Antarctica. Between June and November, it is possible to spot whales on either side of their migratory journey.

Dolphins

The Central Coast is home to a variety of dolphin species, including the playful and acrobatic common dolphin and bottlenose dolphin. These intelligent and curious creatures are often seen riding the bow waves of our boats, performing jumps, and sometimes even swimming alongside us as we navigate Broken Bay.

Seals

Our tours allow you to observe sea lions at Barrenjoey Head in their natural habitat. From lounging on rocks to gracefully swimming in the ocean, these curious and social animals are a delight to watch. You’ll learn about their behaviours, habitats, and see why they are called “sea hunds” in German (literal translation is ‘sea dogs’).

Scenic Coastal Views

Along the way, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of lush bush, sandstone cliffs, and sandy beaches. Keep an eye out for other local wildlife, including sea eagles, fairy penguins, and if you’re lucky, maybe even a whale on its migratory path!
